It's been a few months since we bought the game, but we finally ripped the plastic off and started playing it!
It's a simpified version of the original Scrabble. Words are printed on the board and you only have enough letter tiles to match the letters in the words already printed. So NO LOSING LETTERS! (This could be a problem considering our track record...) Still, it's a good introduction to the game and has had some interesting side benefits.
Luke wants to play too so he steals letter tiles from the pile and places them on the board. He might not be following the "rules" set forth by the makers of the game, but he has seen what we've been doing and he is matching the letters in his hand to the letters on the board. Thought that was pretty cool.
Also, speaking of the rules, the game wants you to only play 2 tiles during your turn. We quickly decided that we should be able to play as many tiles as we could when it was our turn, so we changed that rule! Ha!
I am loving the basic math skills that are being reinforced with this also because since you always have 7 letter tiles, whoever is playing with me is learning all the units of the number 7. 1+6=7, 2+5=7, 3+4=7 and so on.
Good Stuff.
